• WELCOME

Agriculture for Sustainability is more than a course—it's a call to action for a new generation of changemakers ready to transform how we grow food, manage natural resources, and care for our planet. In the face of climate change, food insecurity, and dwindling ecosystems, sustainable agriculture offers practical, science-based solutions that ensure long-term productivity while preserving environmental health.

This course opens learners' eyes to the intricate balance between human needs and ecological limits. It explores innovative farming methods, agroecological principles, and circular economy models that minimize waste and restore soil health. From organic farming and integrated pest management to water conservation and renewable energy in agriculture, students gain hands-on insights into real-world solutions.

Learners will also explore the vital role of local communities, indigenous knowledge, and policy in shaping sustainable food systems. Through case studies, field visits, and project-based learning, the course fosters critical thinking, innovation, and leadership—skills urgently needed in the agricultural sector today.

By the end of this course, students will not only understand the ‘how’ but also the ‘why’ of sustainable agriculture. They will be empowered to make informed decisions, advocate for change, and contribute to resilient food systems that nourish both people and the planet for generations to come.

This course introduces learners to the principles and practices of animal production, focusing on the management of livestock for food, income, and sustainable livelihoods. It covers the scientific, technical, and practical aspects of rearing major farm animals including cattle, sheep, goats, pigs, poultry, rabbits, and emerging livestock species.

Learners will study animal breeds and breeding, housing and nutrition, reproduction and health management, as well as production systems (intensive, semi-intensive, and extensive). Emphasis is placed on sustainable livestock farming practices, animal welfare, and integration of livestock production into modern agribusiness.

The course further develops learners’ competencies in practical animal husbandry, disease prevention and control, record keeping, and marketing of livestock products such as milk, meat, eggs, hides, and skins. By the end of the course, learners will have the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to improve productivity, ensure food security, and exploit entrepreneurial opportunities in the livestock sector

This course provides learners with fundamental and applied knowledge in the principles and practices of crop production. It focuses on the scientific, technical, and practical aspects of producing major food, cash, and horticultural crops. Learners will explore soil preparation, seed selection, planting methods, crop husbandry practices, pest and disease management, weed control, harvesting, and post-harvest handling

This course introduces students to the principles and practices of crop production with a focus on sustainable, efficient, and climate-resilient farming methods. It explores the biological, environmental, and technological factors that influence crop growth, development, and yield. Learners will gain knowledge on crop classification, soil and water management, planting techniques, pest and weed control, harvesting, and post-harvest handling.

The course combines theoretical knowledge with hands-on practical experiences to enable students to understand and apply modern techniques in field crop production. Special attention is given to major staple and cash crops grown in Kenya and East Africa, promoting food security and agribusiness opportunities.

Animal Production is a cornerstone of sustainable agriculture, focusing on the science and practice of breeding, raising, and managing livestock to meet the growing demands for food, income, and raw materials. This course equips learners with the technical skills and knowledge necessary to enhance productivity, animal welfare, and environmental stewardship in modern livestock systems."
